So like most people you know that power outages are becoming much more frequent in the New England area, you know that you want a generator but aren't quite sure where to start.
Don't worry we can help.
Purchasing a
generator is a big decision and cost for most homeowners and
businesses. There are many steps to buying a generator which include
Sizing up the system according to you wants and needs during an extended power outage.
Where to purchase a reliable system and properly prepare it to run and safely provide power to your home or business.
Finding an electrician to install the transfer switch, dig the electrical line trench & obtain necessary permits.
Getting a Propane or Natural Gas line hooked up to standby systems.
Who will be able to service all of the Engine, Alternator, Electronic Control and Electrical Switch components.
Generators, much like cars and almost all products these days have huge product differentiation between low cost and quality/ reliable products, like most of us know many products are now being entirely made overseas or at least the majority of parts are and are then assembled in the USA and with those products comes low cost materials, questionable engineering & quality control and an overall unreliable product.
The low cost generators you'll find at the box stores and that are being widely advertised will indeed start and function properly initially if installed correctly, however with the low cost requirements that these manufacturers are now abiding by are not allowing for production of generators designed to run for multiple extended power outages like the 3-5 day continuous ones that the North East is experiencing almost yearly now.
At The Generator Connection we have experience working on every different brand and size generator system out there & have found that we cannot stand behind and guarantee performance on the inferior (box store) brands of generators there are just to many components that they have "cheapened up" over the years that are failing during the extended power outages.
The Generator Connection sells & guarantees service on Kohler & Winco w/ Honda Engines for Automatic Standby Systems and Honda & Winco w/ Honda Engines for Portable Systems.
How Does The Auto Standby Generator System Work?
• An automatic transfer switch (ATS) monitors your
utility power and provides 100% isolation between
your generator and the utility power. If the incoming
power fails, the ATS will send a start signal to the
generator set activating the automatic start system
on the generator.
• After a short start delay the engine generator will
start and begin supplying the ATS with emergency
power. At this time, the ATS will transfer your
connected distribution panel to the generator powering
up your emergency circuits.
• Upon return of utility power, the ATS will transfer your
connected distribution panel back to line power and
discontinue the start signal to the generator. After a
short cool down period the generator will stop and
return to the standby mode awaiting the next power
outage.
• Standby generators use your
own natural gas or LP fuel system. This provides
you with a long continuous run time and
unlimited run time in the case of natural gas.
